Prepping your newborn for their session can be stressful, but it doesn't have to be. We've compiled 5 tips to help you and little bub to have a great photoshoot experience. We promise, there will be lot of snuggles and snooze for your baby and you can relax while we get to work.

1. Schedule early, so you can prepare for the session before baby arrives

Typically speaking, we schedule your newborn session within the first two weeks of the birth. We recommend scheduling your photo session as far in advance as possible as because spaces fill up quickly. You want to make sure all the details are discussed and have all the tips in hand before baby arrives. Plus, booking early means you can avoid potential disappointment of missing out on the opportunity altogether.

2. Heat!

During your photo session in our studio, we always have the heater going. Your newborn was warm in the belly 24/7, and we want to replicate the a familiar environment for them. We aim to keep the studio between 26°C and 28°C. What this means for parents, is to come to the session wearing layers. It'll be warm all around, but your baby will love it! Using heaters and heating pads to warm up fabrics before placing baby on our beanbag is part of our studio procedures to keep baby nice and comfortable.

3. Buttoned/zippered Sleepers

Before you head out the door, remember to dress baby in clothing that can be easily removable. This means no over-the-head onesies. If we can start photographing baby straight away once you arrive, we'll continue to let your newborn sleep soundly while we replace her clothes with our carefully curated collection of outfits and wraps.

4. Helping baby fall asleep

What can beat a soundly sleeping baby in an adorable curly pose. There are so many poses to capture the precious moments of the newborn stage. One tool we swear by in keeping baby clam and sleepy is with a white noise machine. Babies are used to lots of ambient noise in mommy's belly and it's amazing they find so much comfort listening to that.

5. Pamper yourself

You just had a baby - and it's hard work. Getting your hair and makeup done is probably low on your list, but we want you to feel good about your session. You deserve a little self-love and feel great when you're at the session. Feel free to take a nap on the couch which we photograph baby, read a book, or serve the internet with our free wi-fi. Enjoy some me-time while I take care of baby for a few hours. Newborn sessions can range from 2-4 hours. We allow for lots of snuggle time and feedings in between to ensure their bellies are full. Before you know it, we'll have captured beautiful images you will love to enjoy in your home for a lifetime.
