Newborn Baby Photoshoot – Richmond Hill Photographer in Toronto, GTA
Safe, gentle, and timeless poses that capture your baby's first precious days — without the overwhelm.
One of the most common questions I get from new parents is: "What poses will we actually do during our session?" Great question! As a Richmond Hill newborn photographer serving Toronto and GTA, I've guided hundreds of families through their very first newborn photoshoot with us — and the answer is always the same: the simplest poses create the most treasured images. We always include some portraits that will be timeless and simple to capture baby's natural features.
While we use beautifully curated props in the studio, there are some portraits that is just simple and clean. The most cherished newborn images are often the simplest — just baby, no distractions.
Simple poses never look dated — these images will be treasured for generations
This has got to be one of the most adorable poses for newborns because it resembles how they look like in mommy's tummy. All tucked together snuggly. most newborns find this newborn pose soothing because they were so used to being positioned that way for the past 9 months. This pose really shows how precious and tiny they are in those first few weeks of life!
Side-lying Pose is literally just that! Baby is lying on her side, with little feet tucked in and her hands under her cheek. Oh - so -cute! this is one of my go-to poses because you can dress them in different outfits and see how adorable and precious they look! One of my favouriates during a newborn photoshoot in our photo studio. Baby also look very natural in this pose.
Sometimes when we get babies who need a bit of assistance falling asleep, or curious babies who don't want to fall asleep. This wrapped pose is perfect! They get swaddled in beautiful fabrics and they feel so secure being bundled up like that.
A well-wrapped baby stays asleep longer, which means more time for capturing the images you'll treasure — without interruption or fussiness.
The ideal window for newborn photography is within the first 1-3 week days after birth. Babies are usually still nice and sleep, curl naturally, and are more content to be gently posed for longer periods.
While newborns should be photographed in the first few weeks of life. Ideal time to book your session is around 30-weeks pregnant to ensure there is availability around the time baby is due to arrive!
I recommend booking during your second trimester to secure your preferred date — sessions book quickly, especially in spring and fall across Richmond Hill and the GTA.
