When to Schedule a Maternity Session

The morning sickness, early flutters of baby moving, the baby kicks. Being pregnant is truly an amazing journey a woman goes through. Though not everyday will feel great being pregnant. But we believe it is such a miraculous time in your life. Creating a little human is so incredible and we want to help you bathe in your pregnancy glow. Which leads us to the question - when is the best time to be photographed during your pregnancy?

Here in Toronto, we know all too well winter months can be quite cold. Snowy scenery is beautiful, but safety is always priority. So we typically recommend outdoor maternity sessions for warmer weather if you prefer nature. Even if you have a "winter baby", outdoor sessions can still be considered as soon as bellly starts showing. A more flexible and year-round option is of course to have an in-studio portrait session. This is a great solution for toddlers too, so they stay nice and warm for the adorable portraits with mommy's pregnant belly.

The images above is what I refer to a "golden maternity session", because - just look at the gorgeous fall colours taken in October!

Each pregnancy is different and unique and we want to find the best timing that you will feel and look the best. While the best time to be photographed is between 28-36 weeks of your pregnancy, we recommend booking your maternity portrait session at the end of your first trimester, and start of your second trimester. That leaves ample time to make decisions on locations, themes, and anything else that you'd like to incorporate in creating art work you'll love.
