There is so much joy when we see our return clients come back into the studio welcoming a new baby. Especially seeing older brother/sister who has now grown up into an adorable toddler full of personality, is such as amazing feeling. What a beautiful life journey.

Warming up

For newborn photography sessions with siblings, we start off with letting the older sibling warm up to the studio . There is a waiting area stocked with toys they are welcome to play with, or just watch and soak it all it. They can make friends with me while baby is being soothed or wrapped.

Siblings who come to us are usually between 2-5 years old, and their attention span can be short. So we make sure to incorporate the them in the first few pictures.

Posing

The fun part - actually photographing baby and sibling together. There are many ways to help them interact with each other. Depending on the age of the toddler, we can get them nice and comfortable into those adorable hugging sibling shots laying on the floor or beanbag.

Props

Let's face it though, sometimes siblings will not always cooperate when we want them to. That's where props come to the rescue. It's an adorable set up, plus we can always photograph sibling and baby alone, and then add in some magic in post editing before we create heirloom art displays for your home.

If sibling is slightly older and can follow directions, we can attempt more sophisticated set ups like the image below. I just love how classic and timeless the image is. When they are older to look back at the incredible moments when baby joined the family, they'll love to see the connection they shared was ever so precious.
